Tortoise

Tippy is a rescued Russian or Horsfield’s Tortoise.  She’s been living with me since 2011.  When I got her I knew nothing about tortoises and had to learn very quickly!  Unfortunately there’s a lot of misinformation out there, with pet shops being the worst offenders, there’s no need for it either as pet shops can (and some do) stock the correct equipment.  I guess the biggest issue is that tortoises are not easy pets to look after.  Being exotic animals (not native to the country) they have environmental needs which can take a bit of work to get right.  However with a bit of knowledge they are rewarding pets.

In my quest for the right information I found some amazing web sites:
  • http://tortoisetrust.org/  My first port of call for any tortoise related question.  The friendly and very informative forums are simply brilliant and there are tortoise experts on hand to answer your questions.
  • http://www.tlady.clara.net/TortGuide/index.htm  Another great site with information on habitat and feeding for tortoises.  Feeding especially can be very easy with the right knowledge.  Growing your own is cheap and provides the best diet.
  • http://www.carolinapetsupply.com/catalog/  A pet shop that does it right.  They sell the right equipment and give the right advice.  Far better than pet co or the other big chains that keep live animals in the wrong conditions.

She’s my little angel and I love watching what she gets up to when I’m out of the house!

This a Microsoft HD cam with autofocus.  It gives a really good image and I’ve ordered 2 more.
The image refreshes every 30 seconds.
